Rehearsals have begun for ‘Nursery Rhymes with a Twist’, the Swindon Community Opera presentation at the 2015 Madame Reynard’s Fringe Festival. Yesterday evening the Barbershop Quartet started work on ‘Dr Foster’, the 8th of Twelve Nursery Rhymes’ set by composer Geoff Westley.
JT, Director, says: ‘I first heard one of these sensitive and quirkily set Nursery Rhymes at the AOTOS Teacher Training course last summer and I am delighted that the composer is allowing us to perform them as the main item in our programme. They are thoughtful and amusing Art songs and can be appreciated by both adults and children.
The Nursery Rhymes will be performed in the upstairs bar of the Wyvern Theatre at 2pm on Saturday 11 April.
Singers are Yvette Cummings and Shaun Holley, from Swindon Community Opera plus the ‘A Little Off the Top’ Barbershop Quartet.
The performance will feature illustrations by local artist Billy Beaumont, one of the principal exhibitors at ‘Swindon the Opera’ in 2012
